Clarification:

Let me reiterate Intel's Core duo chips use 32 bit core with 64 bit api
extensions. This why it's possible to run 64 bit OS on the Core Duo.

Intel "Core 2 Duo" is 64bit, is it not? .. but not the Intel "Core Duo",
as I understand it. That little '2' in the name seems to be crucial!

Somebody please correct me if I have it wrong, but kernels compiled for
X86_64 runs on the Core 2 Duo.

There is perhaps some dispute, but the benchmarks I have seen show that
the Core2Duo has pushed the AMD 64 off the mountain top (for the
present, I suppose)

Anyone willing to speculate on whether AMD is likely to climb back, and
if so when?
