This post is an announcement of intent designed to open a MythTV thread

which I will ask for LOTS of help.

First I want to thank Gus who made a case and the KnoppMyth DVD
available
to me. Then I want to thank my wife for recognizing this as a valuable
project and encouraging me to devote valuable time to it. Then I want to
thank the MythTV developers, Linus Torvalds, my mother, my father, my

OK, here is where we are.

1.6666 mHz AMD CPU
500 MB RAM
~ 300 GB IDE disk space
IDE CD/DVD R/W
Gyration keyboard/mouse (http://perens.com/FreeSoftware/gyration.html)
NVidia TV output (actual card to be posted later when I struggle with
it)
Hauppage 150
D-Link wireless

I see that you have an AMD motherboard. Does it have a VIA chipset,
specifically the KT133/KT133A ? If so you will have problems because
there is a bug in the DMA operation with the PVR-150 card. I had to buy
a new motherboard because of that. I got a cheap ($89) Fry's special
combo of an ECS 755 with an SIS chipset and a Sempron processor that
works great.

Oops!

Guess I'm off to Fry's.

Looking at the specs for your motherboard it looks like you have the TWO six six chipset vice the ONE six six chipset. I see reports on the forums where the TWO six six seems to work fine. Although a new motherboard/CPU might not be a bad idea anyway. I found that my new Sempron ran much faster and cooler than my old Athlon 1.4GHz, although you don't really need much horsepower using the PVR-150 unless you intend to transcode the files to something else once you finish recording them. If you are going to have the box sit next to the TV then you will want to consider getting a quiet CPU fan and maybe a quiet power supply also. But those are things you can do later.
