Well, I finally cut out WEP security (the right way) and tested, and the
wireless connected just fine. This is with the FC5 orinoco_pci module on a
D-Link DWL-520 Rev B1.

Adding WEP back in breaks it.

So is the wireless card (or the driver) too old to do WEP? If so, what
security can I adopt, if any?

This is good news. We can drop this Linux-special-olympics thread and move
on to the fun stuff -- the Gyration wireless keyboard/mouse (Bruce Perens
says they work out of the box ... we shall see), and Myth itself.
