Recently did a fresh install from FC4 to FC6. I had noticed this issue
sporadically in FC4, where dhcp would fail to pick up the gateway every odd
router or so. This issue has become full blown in FC6.
I cannot retrieve the GW on any wireless router, but successfully get IP,
netmask, DNS. I have been resorting to manually adding GW via 'route add'
but this is a pain in the ass when travelling from starbux to starbux.

I just did an FC5 --> FC6 fresh install on my laptop. I have no problems
so far getting a connection. I don't know what wlanassistant is, but I
use the provided NetworkManager and nm-applet in KDE with not problems.
This includes getting a WPA/WPA2 connection using KWallet to manage
passwords.
I did nothing else special. I have yet to try it in Gnome (which I
despise for the most part). You might not have all the necessary
services turned on (D-Bus, etc.)?
I also have an IPW2200 chipset.
