If you have RHEL *5* as you say, then do not install the kernel for RHEL3. It will break things. RHEL5 has SELinux and RHEL3 does not.
If you fat fingered it and are asking if you should upgrade your RHEL3 system to RHEL3 update 8. Short answer: Yes.
