As with many things I am late to this party. ZFS is a file system produced by Sun Microsystems for the Solaris Operating System. It is notable for its high capacity, integration of the concepts of filesystem and volume management, novel on-disk structure, lightweight filesystems, and easy storage pool management. ZFS is an open source project licensed under the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL).
