Oh, please. You're effectively saying that you can create a rules-based
system that cannot be gamed or circumvented.
No, I'm not. I'm not proposing a rules-based system any more than the
separation of church and state is rules-based. We've gotten this far
without an officially sanctioned religion not because the Constitution
prohibits it, necessarily, but because people are willing to stick up
for the principle involved. I'm not proposing the perfect rule
cocktail that will solve all of our problems, but rather a set of
principles that we can defend. Lord knows we're never going to create
the perfect society, but I think we can make progress.
