You called your partner your wife.  That reveals how you think of her.  If
you didn't file the legal paperwork but pledged a commitment to each other
in some other way that was meaningful to you both then you essentially are
married.  As I said above, my definition of marriage is a commitment and
more than some legal papers at the courthouse.
