Moving the cursor while in insert mode ought to cause some serious side effects. Um.... what sort of keyboard are you using? I can hit <escape> with my little finger (or with control-[), which is a LOT less movement than moving my hands to the arrow keys. You must have a really funky keyboard if it's easier to use the arrow keys than to hit escape, do your movement, and then hit i or a. Two additional keystrokes and no moving your hands from the home row. Now, if you're right hand is on the mouse instead of the keyboard, then meyabe, but you then have much larger problems.... -- Maybe big keyboards and small hands make escape hard to hit.
