Why would you use "rm -rf . something"? (Honest question.) (I never
use -rf at all.)
Because you really meant to:
"rm -rf .something"
but committed a thinko and typed:
"rm -rf . something"
I'd really rather not test this. What would it do? I'm /guessing/ that
it would wipe out *everything* in the current directory and then try to
wipe out "something" (which would be, ..., already, ..., well, ...,
gone, right?).
If you don't use -rf, how do you recursively delete directories with
read-only files in them?

It gives me visual aids to help me to actually see that I'm not doing
something really stoooopid!
In my Amiga days, I learned the hard way to *not* blindly answer the
sanity checking questions. I always take an extra second to think about
the questions I'm asked. (Well, nearly always. Sometimes, the system
surprises me somewhere with some pop-up I wasn't expecting and before I
realize it, I've answered a question without even knowing what it was
because the question is already gone. I really *really* wish that
pop-ups would not steal the focus!!! Sure, pop to the top, that's fine,
but leave my typing where it was. Sure, it's annoying to have to
manually move the focus to the pop-up, but I would prefer the safety of
that. Somewhere, there's an option to have the focus in whatever window
the mouse is hovering over (even though the window is not necessarily on
top). I kinda like that option but don't remember how to get it. But
the danger there is if the pop-up pops up under the mouse.)
