Where did you hear that? Are you referring to the abysmal attempts by the FSF to provide a free alternative to Flash? The stuff that doesn't work and probably will never work because it would violate Adobe's trademark/copywrite/patent?
Even Adobe's own player still has some problems in Linux, like weird loops, ignoring user commands to stop playing (that might be a feature), and freeze-ups.
