So you know the cheap fix, right? You, like, drill little holes with a
dremmel and fill them with Karo syrup and seal it with solder ... right?

Do that but then don't put it all back together. You can instantly tell what's getting hot and what's not. If it's too hot break out the fans. Or the vacuum.
