I disagree. I work in a group of 60 geographically dispersed people.
I suppose it's possible I could ask them all to check some calender before
sending me an email.
Or, I could politely notify them that I'll be out of town for the next
week, so they might want to look elsewhere for the answer to their
question.

Most of the email I get from folks not in my office is along the lines of
"Hey, remember that $foo we were talking about a couple of months ago? Can
you send it to me?"
It's not pressing by any stretch, but I don't see why they shouldn't get
the courtesy of being informed that it might be a while before I get back
to them.
