It's actually a rather cute segment from The Tonight Show where they bring out 2 stereotypically dressed college students to text message each other. As their opponents, they bring out 2 older gents dressed in what is supposed to pass for early 1900's telegrapher garb.

Are they text messaging with T9? That is much faster.

Probably not for an arbitrary sentence like was given.

I agree that T9 is probably much faster for the standard: "No Way!" "Way!" "No WAY!" "WAY!" that makes up 80% of text messaging between high school students.
