Nice that it allows this without killing off the kernel? yes. Nice that this happens at all, however? Not in the least. It's little bullshit problems like this that make the current revisions of desktop environments reminiscent of window$.
Hence, the reason why today, I'm still using a window manager and refuse the refuse that is a desktop environment. I don't need that kind of junk getting in my way.
