[ 45.480444] NFORCE3-250: neither IDE port enabled (BIOS)
Check your BIOS settings and see if the IDE ports are disabled
altogether. That will definitely cause problems
nothing I can do about it, no such BIOS option.
I find that really hard to believe. I can't remember the last time I saw
a modern (i.e. <3 yrs. old) mobo that didn't have such an option.
Mee, too, but this board seems to go for sATA ops only, meant for disks=sATA
nad ATA for cd/dvd only.
So you're saying, that even though I'm sitting here looking at the
manual - which includes a screen shot of the IDE (PATA) settings - that
your board does not even have that screen in the BIOS Setup?!
If that's the case, where the manual doesn't even correctly describe the
BIOS settings (and I've gotta say, after looking at that specific
manual, it's pretty good as mobo manuals go), then I'd either return the
board or otherwise stop using it.
[snip)
Okay, I'm looking at the manual now.
There is such a setting: "Advanced" | "Onboard Devices".
Nothing. I looked there of course. I looked three times everywhere in that
BIOS, I even forced UDMA5 in the main tab, no good. I'll try a later kernel
as soon as the array is resynced (forgot to disable it for testing :( )
So, row item "Onboard Devices Configuration" under menu item "Advanced"
does not even exist on the motherboard itself, despite the screen shot
on page 4-15 in its manual?!
And so neither does the option, "Internal SATA IDE Interfaces", within
the "Onboard Devices Configuration" exist, as shown (screen shot) and
described on page 4-21?
Again, I find this incredulous, and, if true, understand your perplexity.
BTW, just so we're on the same page here, we are talking about being
able to enable/disable the SATA IDE chipset (as suggested by Kelsey),
are we not?
