I can understand a sysadmin running zillions of machines perhaps needing a centralized log server but I can't think of a reason for a home user with 1-2 machines.
I know central log servers are handly if you get hacked to help prosecute the bad guys. However, that is not a priority right now.....I just want to prevent security holes & central log servers don't seem useful for Joe Sixpack home Linux user. Agree?
