In upgrading the firmware on my home router, I re-encountered an option
for enabling or disabling UPnP. The default was enabled.

I see some network announcement traffic (239.255.255.250.ssdp), but it
doesn't seem excessive.
In general, discovery seems like a good thing -- unless one has reasons
for hiding things. But I don't know if UPnp really adds something beyond
    other router-specific mechanisms?

I see some writing about UPnP risks, but I haven't seen a concise summary.

Should routers have UPnP on or off?
What about other servers?
Linux clients?
Windows clients?

Regards,
..jim
