Nice technology, but I am still a little disappointed that we are stuck with
that slow GPRS with a speed of of only 350 kpbs. It would be really cool when
Wimax phones are available (http://www.wimaxphone.com/# ). So one could pay
$300 and then pay another $300-$400 for a Wimax enabled phone..

It is already being manufactured. It goes on sale July 9th for $300.
Will be available mass-market in October for $450. I assume we will be
able to go to openmoko.com and order it for $300 after July 9th. And
those not "in the know" can get it from their local salesdroids from
$450 or something like that.

It is made by Taiwanese computing and consumer device equipment
manufacturer FIC. FIC currently funds about 30 software and 15 hardware
engineers involved with the effort.

It has GPS in it. It has wi-fi. It's gonna rock. :)

I have *always* wanted to be able to record a location/waypoint and file
it under "cool restaurant" or "clients office" or whatever and be able
to refer back to those things later. Especially the restaurant thing. I
often see a place and think "I should come back here to eat" some day. I
want to just be able to snap a pic of it, have lat/long recorded with
the pic, and file it under food.

Our phones/computers/pda's/whatever have SO much more they can do for us
than they currently do.

Oh, and it can play music. Big whoop.
