I am sure I could spend the time to do dd and fdisk, etc, but dumb it
down and speed it up for me. :o) Hmm... can I put a second disk in the
system and do a dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb and will that get the boot
sectors, etc ? Is it that simple ?
best option is to use a seperate booting linux if you need one i like insert its
like 55mb then use dd_rescue it takes simpler parameters and is faster, and
handles drive errors better (not a great thing to be copying dead data, but you
can get lucky)
dd_rescue /dev/hda /dev/sda
will do the entire first pata drive onto the first
sata/usb drive so no if= and of= and .....
something to think about is replacing the drive in the machine now, and using a
usb converter which insert will automount, but either way you can get it done.
