I don't know.  This is essentially the same as the setup you were
connecting to this morning at the Bookstore InstallFest.    Presume
you have been paying attention to link lights to take care of the need
for switching ports between uplink and regular.

Second thought.  Some switches have a pair of connectors for the same
port, one of which is uplink and the other isn't.  You can not use
both of them simultaneously.  All the other ports on the switch are
regular.

Been there, done that, suffered for a few minutes while wondering what
went wrong.
