Check out bug reports on launchpad. USB issues have been known since 6.10 and there are numerous reports. I had a look in the kernel config and found that the usb suspend code was still experimental. I think that's awful practice slamming such code into a stable release just to be able to announce "hey, we got better suspend than XY" - and then don't even have it really for it breaks stuff like in your case. The USB system in Ubuntu breaks all sort of stuff. My Alcor card reader only works every now and then, a cheap hub that works in three other OS just fine only accepts this and that hardware in kubuntu and so on.
Together with all the other little oddities Kub finally pushed me over the edge, I'm now planning on a mailserver solution to make switching distros easier, as soon as that is done I'll move to Debian Etch. (To those who've known me for some time: yeah, Dex Filmore goes Debian. No kidding.) -- -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.12 GCS d--(+)@ s-:+ a- C++++ UL++ P+>++ L+++>++++ E-- W++ N o?
