Then why don't the Global Foretune 1000 companies simply form an OSS consortium and develop all of the common software i.e. OS, middleware, database, communications infrastructure, that they need? If they each put 5% of their yearly IT budget to this than within a few years they would be free of Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, etc. ...
