<grump>

What is it that's missing in the UI programming that keeps me from
grabbing stuff in some parts of the UI.

For example, in Thunderbird, I can grab the subject text from the
dividing bar between message-list pane and message-content pane,

..but..

I cannot grab anything inside the message-list pane.

Similar gripes about (some) popup dialogs. Some error messages cannot be
mouse-captured <arggh, double-sigh>.

I would think there ought to be HCI guideline somewhere that says unless
there is a reason for prohibiting it (whatever that might be), every bit
of text ought to have a means of capture (and I don't mean a bit map
image!).

Admittedly, I suppose, this would require extra work when simple
clicking already does something (in T'bird like highlighting the line,
and making the message current). Maybe shift+mouse drag might be needed.

I feel *cheated* that I can't get the text -- anybody else?

</grump>

Regards,
..jim
