Thanks for the tip. I stand admonished. :-) Turns out I did `man -k partitions` -- but didn't think of proc (duh). Even if you have read man proc a number of times, the line about /proc/partitions doesn't quite shout how useful it is. I suppose everything there is "shout-worthy" in some context.
