Easy enough to do, especially if you insert line-breaks after the fact.

I'd like thunderbird to:
(a) put a faint grey line at 80 columns (or other column of my choosing)
(b) visually distinguish between hard and soft carriage returns
(c) provide vi-keybindings, or allow an external editor to be embedded
(such as how jVi can be embedded into netbeans)
