I have just installed Fedora 8 on my Compaq Presario laptop, dual
AMD_64 processors. Used the DVD for 64-bit systems. Took about 35
minutes.
At the moment, there are two fairly serious show-stoppers. I thought
they might be cured by installing all the available updates. Two
hours later, no noticeable improvement.
Sometimes, but not always, when the Gnome user interface comes up, the
cursor is invisible. I can tell it is there by dragging the mouse
around and seeing what lights up in the way of Tool Tips.
When shut down either from the hard-to-find GUI button, or from a root
login on a text console, the system does shut down all the way, but
hangs part way through the process. No keyboard response, only thing
to do is push the hard power-off switch.
Anyone with similar experiences or comments?
At the cost of a few hours, I could try the 32-bit distro on this
hardware, or I suppose I could try the 64-bit or 32-bit live CD.
