I got a brand new Toshiba and started the installation
of Ubuntu last Saturday at that technical bookstore
during the Installfest at 3:00 PM. I had to finish the
installation while driving home, and I have a system
up and running except for the Realtek wireless chip.

I am able to connect through the Realtek in Vista but
Ubuntu seems not to like it.

It even does not recognize the presence of a wireless
chip at all. For example by going into Network
Administration, it only shows the ethernet (wired
connection) and the modem connection.

Any suggestion on what I need to do to further pursue
the issue

Thanks,
