Are you using HPLIP? (http://hplip.sourceforge.net/)
I have had several HP printers and these drivers are really solid.
Integrates perfectly with CUPS and enables all functions of
multi-function units (fax, scan, digital media slots).

This post is probably best addressed to Carl. I got the above printer
from him at a KPLUG meeting some time ago, but have just now tried to
use it - problems with our trusty Epson Photo EX.
1) The printer has a JetDirect port. Is there a way of assigning a
static IP address to the printer?
2) I have little idea what the four LED's are on the front right panel.
3) What does the single blue button on the right front panel do?
4) What does the four-position lever in front of the ink cartridges
select? What about the vertical rod to the right of the cartridges?
When trying the self test, the paper travels only about to the point
where the heads might start printing, and then stops. At that point,
the third LED (paper with folded corner) blinks. I think this means
there is a paper jam. I see no way of forcing the paper through via a
form feed. If I cycle power, the paper is ejected normally.
If I try to print a CUPS test page, the same sequence occurs. IOW, it
doesn't print.
Other than the above, it works fine ;)
