Maybe this was already said.. but, why don't you just share your music directory over NFS and have all your amarok clients share the same mysql db? Your only back-end would be mysql and nfs.

Amarok is NOT a true C/S ... true?)

what is a c/s? Are you looking to stream music over your network? I
don't
think Amarok does that. There are other programs that do that well. But
if
you want to play music on Computer A from Computer B and C it's very
doable.

c/s == client/server

Yes, I want to have one music store on one server and have several
machines on the network w/ Amarok FEs (front ends) tapping into that
store.

Amarok through NFS is working on one machine (haven't tested 2 or 2 at
once), but the music has pauses. Maybe a nfs tune parameter? Hard rather
than soft?

My reading says Amarok 2.x has been requested to be c/s and may be.
