Does the DVD work, and does it have a floppy drive?
Maybe smart boot manager is worth a try:
  http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=4185

SBM boots to the floppy and lets you re-choose a boot device from a
menu. It does sometimes help on those older bios's.
