Which stuff are you missing in Gentoo, specifically? I've got it running on a VPS, so I haven't needed (or missed) anything device-wise, so far. Gentoo doesn't do a lot by default. That's one reason I finally made the effort to use it. I learned a huge amount from using Slackware years ago, and Gentoo has been doing well for me too. If I decide to install it on a desktop machine, I'm curious what device configuration items I might want to work out.
