And of course this does not mean that lawyers do believe that it is possible. The wikipedia entry says that "the law is somewhat unclear". In my dealings with lawyers it seems that they hate anything unclear except where it allows them their needed wiggle room. I tend to agree with Chris that it is likely less trouble to just stick a GPL on it and call it good.

But that doesn't help someone trying to decide if they should _use_
something like SQLite.  The author's intent of marking it as public domain
was to allow it to be used for any purpose.  Plenty of people seem to
make use of this.
