When I insert a DVD into this DVD-CD-RW drive on this ThinkPad laptop
it never works. It just spins and makes noise.
I tried to run dmesg to see what the device file was but no messages showed up.
How mount the DVD-CD-RW myself if nothing shows up in dmesg about it?
It is BRAND NEW!!!
Are you ever going to learn how to ask a question properly?
<http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html>
What is the model of your Thinkpad?
Does the DVD/CD-ROM show up in the BIOS display when you boot?
What distribution of Linux do you have installed? What kernel is it running?
What are you searching for in dmesg? Kernels since 2.6.21 call the
DVD/CDROM drive srN where N is a numeral. So the first detected drive
would be /dev/sr0. Before 2.6.21, if the drive was ATA (IDE) it would
show as hdL where L is a Letter. SATA drives show as sdL where L is a
letter.
Post your dmesg if you still can't find your drive.
