It's called a Wullenweber antenna - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wullenweber You can tell who operates it by where the little building is located. If it's inside the ring, it's Navy. If it's outside, it's Army/Airforce. One of my ham radio passions is running HF mobile http://ka6wke.blogspot.com. The Dodge was in my heyday of driving 30K miles a year. One day in the late 80s when I was down there, I was chatting away as I drove (blog post of 1982 Capri) through the array. A few mins later, the OOD and several MPs were tapping on my window, all in a not very happy mood. I'm sure I confused a bunch of positions inside, got into a bunch of hot water with the CO too. > > > crossed all the antennas, and could provide a bearing. I don't know much either, I spent 3 years down there before departing the Navy. If the Navy decides to tear it down, I'm hoping to get down there and see about getting some pieces. I have a few other friends that worked with these systems during the cold war, lots of memories that's for sure. -- Mark Schoonover, CMDBA http://www.linkedin.com/in/markschoonover http://marksitblog.blogspot.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
