Yeah, it's probably kept around just in case. It's called a Wullenweber
antenna -

You can tell who operates it by where the little building is located. If
it's inside the ring, it's Navy. If it's outside, it's Army/Airforce. One of
my ham radio passions is running HF mobile http://ka6wke.blogspot.com. The
Dodge was in my heyday of driving 30K miles a year. One day in the late 80s
when I was down there, I was chatting away as I drove (blog post of 1982
Capri) through the array. A few mins later, the OOD and several MPs were
tapping on my window, all in a not very happy mood. I'm sure I confused a
bunch of positions inside, got into a bunch of hot water with the CO too.

I don't know much either, I spent 3 years down there before departing the
Navy. If the Navy decides to tear it down, I'm hoping to get down there and
see about getting some pieces. I have a few other friends that worked with
these systems during the cold war, lots of memories that's for sure.
