I actually get eyestrain headaches (and bad after-images) whenever I have to read a web page that's white(ish) on black(ish). Just about everything else (Mail, Thunderbird, practically every web site, nearly all applications) use black text on white backgrounds.
For some reason, though, having my terminal windows be light grey on black doesn't have the same effect.
