if the ethernet interfaceS are connected to routers with other operational systems but you can't even ping the router in the route table and/or the resolv file then if it were me, I'd be booting a liveCD and seeing if I can get that working without much issue. Atleast at that point you have a base line of known connectivity and then have to target your routing software on the installed system. eliminate as many unknowns as you can since who knows what happened. Could be the ports got fried by a short or something except you'd likely not get link status in that situation.
