Then move the new backup partition in as /home/pgallen or something like that. I've used qtparted and parted from Knoppix and Ubuntu to do this type of thing. But with REALLY important stuff, rsync to a networked system first eased my mind though I've never had data loss. Heck, I used to use fdisk to resize partitions in the old days without ever losing data as long as the new partition started at the same place and was resized beyond data size/space all was good.
