One thing I've found, it's funny how many people out there use auto-responders to make sure their spammers know that they'll get to their very important spam as soon as they return from vacation. :)
Back when my work email was handled on real computers, you could use procmail or something like it to auto-respond only to messages that originated within the company. The unix vacation program is also smart enough to not send the same people responses. Now that we've moved to exchange, the vacation responder is almost entirely featureless. People have asked me why I don't use it, and I've explained it clearly. Nonetheless, the spam filtering at work seems to work amazingly well.
