Many moons ago, I used Spinrite *often* to recover customers' data. It worked far more often than not. And even with blocks that it could not read with 100% certainty, it would read many, many times, compare, and take a best guess, then copy the best guess somewhere else. As far as I know, the best guess was always right. If not, the customer never seemed to catch it.
