That's a bummer. Now that Gateway is gone, there's not much around to get good prices on components. Oh, and Mouser closed their parts counter too. I'll have to check if Western Radio is still around, but IIRC, they were pretty expensive. Luckily, Radio Shack still has a small supply of basic stuff. Mail order I've had good luck with Dan's Kits and Small Parts. I'm in the process of building a radio interface to one of my radios for soundcard and rig control using FLDigi on Ubuntu.
Willy's Electronics <http://www.willyselectronics.com> has a store in National City and will be opening a new store close to the old Gateway store and "That Technical Bookstore" on Complex Street in Kearny Mesa. I picked up a flier from their booth at the Del Mar Electronics Show which says they will be holding an open house on Thursday, 15 May with a 10% discount on everything purchased that day. The store in National City was pretty well stocked. Haven't been to the one in Kearny Mesa yet.
