the article did a good job at being informative but I found it interesting
they mentioned the lack of putting the purchase up for bid and tied that
into the Intel Classmate PC. As many of you who have seen and touched
the XO, there are no laptops on the market which have the features and
capabilities of the XO device. So in cases where things like inside/outside
use, water resistence, ruggedized, etc are needed there are no other 
vendors with product meeting these features or even in the price range
of the OLPC XO.  And if they think devices for kids do not require these
features, they don't know their market.

For an example, in a Nigerian Classmate PC pilot, students could not
take the laptops home and Intel had to install a diesel generator outside
the classroom to provide power for the more power consuming Classmate
PCs. ( look at image #7 ):
