<g> my bitch is the docs, not the db. This is solved with a hammer stroke. I changed the access in pg_hba.conf to "trust" thus opening it up to every breathing life form inside the firewall. Crude, but I need to _use_ it, not lock it up. If security were an issue, I'd probably open it up, make it work, and then gradually tighten it down. But I just didn't remember exactly how to open it up.
