As I remember, ultra160 drives are backwards compatible to ultra2. The real next question has two-parts. The drives are 80-pin SCA (single connector attachment). They came enclosed in carriers that slot directly into some Compaq backplanes. Best case, your Proliant has the fittings for these carriers. Next-best case it has some other way of using 80-pin SCA drives. Worst case, the server has cabling for the older 68-pin drives and these won't work at all. I just went looking at the maintenance manual for what I think is this computer, and it looks like the drive carriers will fit. You too can see the manual at: <http://preview.tinyurl.com/4ys8rg> Look at "hot plug drive cage" #8 on page 1-4 and "Hot-Plug SCSI Hard Drive" on page 2-19. Unless Compaq did something really silly in mechanical design, the drive carriers that I have are just like the ones in the drawing. carl -- carl lowenstein marine physical lab u.c. san diego [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- KPLUG-List@kernel-panic.org http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
