I have been tossing around the idea of a wireless lapel mic system
with a fairly short sound pick-up range too, particularly for
presentations made by a single indivdiual. One could do a screencast
and the presentation at the same time. This would be particularly good
for things involving a lot of direct configuration, while still giving
the presenter the ability to walk around a bit. Riding gain might
still be needed, but I'm hoping the volume could be leveled out using
something like LiVES, or Audacity. I need to look at one of these
things someplace and check all this out to see if one can just plug
the receiver into the appropriate audio input jacks on the sound card.
Some of them look like they are meant for pluging into big studio
sound systems more so than PCs. USB might also be an option. I also
have the problem that $80 is about the top of my affordable price
range right now. As you say, never as simple as we'd like.
Turns out Doug has been working on this and is trying to hack a
bluetooth system for the purpose for use with his camera. I think he
has unsubscribed from the list, but I have his e-mail. I'm hoping that
we can use his camera, because the sound on mine is OK, but not great,
and there is no external mic input. Fortunately, if we can get a good
screencasting rig set up, and use his camera for the stuff that lends
itself better to traditional video, the combination should work well
for production. Throw in a bit of careful editing, and we might really
have something.
Thanks for the input.
