Any tips?

I prefer xine <http://www.xinehq.de> to play DVD's. You will need several pieces to use it.

These are the packages for Fedora 8:

From the Fedora repository: xine-lib-1.1.12-2.fc8
From rpm.livna.org: xine-0.99.5-1.lvn8
From rpm.livna.org: xine-lib-extras-nonfree-1.1.12-1.lvn8

If you use yum to pull in the packages it should also pull in the extra pieces. If not, these are the packages you need:

libdvdcss-1.2.9-3.fc8 available at either livna or atrpms
libdvdread-0.9.7-4.fc8 from Fedora project
libdvdnav-4.1.2-1.fc8 from Fedora project
