On my debian(etch) system:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 232K 2006-09-10 16:31 /usr/lib/libgd.so.2.0.33

That is build without XPM suport, but it does have jpeg, freetype, and
png support. You could probably pare that down more if you removed
support that you did not need.
