Full agreement. However, being able to script p4 is a blessing, especially in Linux where the scripting toolset is rich. > /me wishing QUAKE would purchase Perforce so we could all use it, > instead of just me. > > PGA > I've come to appreciate perforce as a ... words to use ... "little baseball" SCM tool of the pay to play variety. If you're amenable to their individual process structures, the "Power Baseball" tools -- clearcase, dimensions, telelogic, can save an organization a lot of time and effort in getting to a full featured enterprise tool. Unfortunately, suits often make the purchasing decision based on suit-think, and engineers have to live with a process that is contrary to their preferred practices. Thus these big tools are equally reviled by many. OTOH, in order to make a small, sports-car tool like perforce full featured requires a lot of custom scripting in house, not always a good trade off. I'll remind everyone of my quote from the physician Osler that if a variety of therapies for the same condition are equally popular, it probably means that none of them are very effective. The lack of a clear leader in SCM tools tells me that the killer app has yet to be written. -- Lan Barnes SCM Analyst Linux Guy Tcl/Tk Enthusiast Biodiesel Brewer -- KPLUG-LPSG@kernel-panic.org http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-lpsg
