No, but vi is the sysadmin's editor. You need the basics up through search-and-destroy to be a good sysadmin.
This is actually less of an issue nowadays. Terminal programs seem to get the terminal settings correct, so you normally can use emacs even for sysadmin tasks.
However, every now and then you have to handle something and you need vi. The last time was when I needed to admin stuff on my Linkstation. Busybox has a pretty minimal vi, and emacs is just out of the question.
