I originally tested on Fedora Core 5, but I realised that it was not new
enough. So I ssh'd into a RHEL 5 box, which is far newer. It is also
x86-64, so I thought it would make a far better test of the circa 1998
programs written and compiled for Debian for a processor that could not
do 64 bit at all.

Certainly I could have created a nice Debian Unstable chroot, but what
is the fun in that when I can cross distros?

I suspect I have proven the point though: there exist programs (near)
ten years old that still work to this day, in their compiled form.
